Choice Match Ups Help EG Roll Over Berry
In the conference opener the Warriors made a few line up adjustments and rolled over Berry 56 to 18 in the conference opener. The only points East allowed were the three forfeits at the top of their line up. Rhett Odom started things off for the second time this year with a quick pin and Eric Harvey got a forfeit. Jared Bassett got back into action after two weeks with a fall. Michael Bedard and Jacob Grigg picked up forfeits. Tyler McCurdy won a tough decison and Alex Ledford scored a pin. John Grigg wrestled up at 145 against Berry's captain. John scored
first, but his opponent was an athlete and made John work for his major
decision. Cody Moore pinned, Mark Bedard received a forfeit and Alex Furr finished off the evening with a 1st period pin.
Congratulations to Michael Bedard Wrestler of the Week
Michael Bedard was selected as the Wrestler of the Week after back to back tournament titles. Michael was 5th in the state last year and his addition has helped to make East's already tough light weight line up a buzz saw similar to the 2004 team which produced 4 state champions.
Warriors have finish 5th with five placers in the 2011 Beef O’ Brady
East Gaston placed five out
of seven wrestlers in the Beef O’ Brady at Fort Mill High School on Friday and Saturday,
December 10-11. Michael Bedard and John Grigg both won Championships. The
tournament is a unique format that pair wrestlers in pools first and the top
two wrestlers out of each pool match up for place matches. It gives all
wrestlers 4-5 matches and placers could get seven.

Jim B. Hayes tough as always
The Jim B. Hayes which has been held at East Meck high school for the last 44 years, but this year due to space restraints in was moved to Rocky River HS. The new venue didn't weaken the competition. East Gaston had back to back champions at 120 and 126 and runners up at 132 and 138. Cody Moore battled back after an early round loss to capture a bronze medal. Only eight Warriors competed but the team was still able to finish 3rd. One of the most anticipated matches of the finals was between John Grigg and 2X state champion Garrison White of JM Robinson. It didn't disappoint. John scored first with a dominate double leg, but fell behind by 2 points going into the 3rd period and managed to score a reversal with 10 seconds left to force an overtime. John gave up a take down in overtime, but it was a great match.
